The GMVS Ski Club provides young racers the opportunity to realize their potential while learning the fundamentals of an exciting sport they can enjoy for the rest of their lives. Athletes are exposed to the positive aspects of competition, the value of setting and pursuing goals, and the benefits of hard work.
All programs provide age-appropriate programming focused on skill development and race techniques. We teach FUNdamentals in an energetic environment that takes advantage of the world-class terrain at Sugarbush Resort and includes a healthy combination of free-skiing and gate training.
Racing is an essential component of all GMVS Ski Club programs. All athletes will be encouraged to participate in Vermont’s Northern Vermont Council (NVC) or other races as appropriate. NVC races may be hosted by any of the seven mountains that make up VARA’s Northern Vermont Council: Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, Cochran’s, Stowe, Burke, Jay Peak and Smugglers Notch.
For more information about the GMVS Ski Club, please contact Sally Utter, GMVS Ski Club Assistant Director for Programs and Lorant Gudasz, GMVS Ski Club Director.
- Race skis (U8s and U10s need one pair while U12s and older will need a SL and GS pair)
- A pair of “rock skis”/or “trainer skis” (used when condition/terrain are thin) — not twin tips
- Hard-ear helmet
- Back protector (strongly recommended)
- GS/DH suits ONLY for U14s and older (NVC does not allow speed suits for U12s and under)
Looking for More On-Snow Time?
Join Us at Cochran's
Looking for a little more time on snow? Our evening program at Cochran’s may be for you. Research now shows that more time on snow for young ski racers equates with better technique and better results in the long-run. Consequently, the GMVS has added complementary programs so you can choose the training options that best work for your child.
We recognize that the Club includes a wide range of racers. Some are weekend-only skiers, while others join the club with hopes and dreams of being world-class racers someday. We aim for all our Club members to learn proper technique, build confidence, make friends, learn the positive aspects of competition, and become lifelong skiers, regardless of how often they train.
It is not a requirement that any youth racers participate in mid-week training, but this year, we are proud to offer training two evenings per week in conjunction with our partners at Cochran’s.
Spend your Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings skiing with GMVS at Cochran’s.
