We are thrilled to announce our new U14 & G7 leaders who will inspire and guide our youngest athletes as they look toward the future. We plan to announce the full slate of alpine coaching staff assignments on or before May 15th.
After 10 years away from his alma mater here in the Mad River Valley Jean-Pierre (JP) Daigneault ’92 will be joining us next year as our Head U14 Coach. JP joins us from up the road at Burke Mountain Academy where he has been serving as the Head Men’s FIS Coach. Prior to three highly successful years at Burke, JP served as the Program Director and Head Coach at the Northwood School in Lake Placid, and in a variety of coaching roles for the British Columbia and Quebec Ski Teams.
Following his time at GMVS, JP went onto Dartmouth College where he obtained a B.A. in Economics while also competing on the NCAA circuit. JP then returned to Canada where he began a career in Information Technology before returning to GMVS to begin his coaching career in 2003. Much of JP’s recent coaching experience has been at the U19 level, yet his positive energy and innovative mindset is well suited to support athletes at any level.”I’m beyond excited to begin work with the next generation of GMVS ski racers. GMVS played a pivotal role for me not only in my development as a ski racer but also as a student, college athlete, a professional out in the ‘real world’, and, later on, a ski coach. I’m delighted to come back to my roots!””Simply, the program, campus, facilities, and training venue are second to none. Up at the mountain, from the new surface lifts to the redesigned Inverness/Brambles trail junction and the enhanced snow-making, the possibilities for training creativity and variability are dizzying. As an alum, I’m filled with equal parts pride and awe when I look around and see everything that’s happened at GMVS since I was last here, 10 years ago. I just can’t wait to get started.”
Joining JP in his leadership of GMVS’s youngest athletes is Grif Edwards who will be taking on the role of G7 Program Director.Grif joined the GMVS faculty in 2019 teaching upper school history classes and supporting our learning services program. Prior to GMVS, Grif taught in a variety of independent and charter school settings with students in both middle and high school. In his first year with us, he gained invaluable insight into the entire GMVS experience by dipping his toes into all aspects of school life, including traveling to Colorado in November with the U14s.
We know Grif’s thoughtful approach to working with students and families will make him a great fit in leading the G7 program in a positive direction.
