Twelfth Night
Twelfth Night, or What You Will, is widely regarded as William Shakespeare’s best comedy. Written over 400 years ago, it tells the story of two estranged twins finding their way back to one another by finding themselves. It explores themes of identity, love, grief, and fellowship through side-splitting comedic folly, ripe for young minds. Originally written for the Public Theater in 2016, Taub’s inspired musical adaptation stays true to Shakespeare’s original text but with a tapestry of modern musical styles, from Broadway pop to New Orleanian jazz, feels fresh and universal.
Set in Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, where the original premiered centuries ago, Taub’s Twelfth Night promises to be GMVS’s most ambitious and jubilant production to date. Director Nick Caycedo leads the GMVS fall production for his sixth year, in collaboration with musical director Ashley O’Brien and lighting designer Caleb Magoon. With over 50% student participation on and off stage, a live band, and the unstoppable duo of Shaina & Shakespeare, Twelfth Night will be an unforgettable night of theater.
