June 17, 2012 ~ The Vermont lacrosse coaches announced their all-state honorees, and GMVS is well represented. From the State Champion boys’ team, seniors Hans Halvorsen and Mitch Grimmer were named to the first team. Halvorsen was one of the most dangerous attackmen in the state, and Grimmer established himself as a playmaker throughout the year, and he had the assists on the final two goals in the championship game. This makes Hans and Mitch eligible for the Twin State game against New Hampshire, which will be held in Hanover, NH on June 23. Sophomore defenseman Neil Gallagher was also...  Read more...

GMVS Boys Lacrosse Vermont State Champions

June 10, 2012~Recap from Jere Brophy, Athleteic DirectorIf you wrote up what happened in Saturday’s Division 2 State Championship lacrosse game and pitched it to a movie producer, you would have it tossed back at you as being a completely unbelievable story.   Well folks, believe it:  in overtime, GMVS defeated Colchester, 8-7 in one of the most exciting games any of us in attendance had ever seen, in any sport. Period. I will try to get the details right but I may have missed some, as I was more or less unconscious during the final moments of the game…you will see why… The game started in...  Read more...

GMVS Boys Lacrosse Returns to State Final

June 6, 2012 ~ In one of the most exciting lacrosse games anyone can remember, the boys’ lacrosse team secured a spot in Saturday’s division 2 state final by defeating the Burr and Burton Bulldogs yesterday, 12-11. Before a packed house (at least by our standards…) Sam Jackson’s squad jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but needed every second before Christian Gallagher took a pass from Hans Halvorsen and converted a close-range shot to seal the team’s 14th win with under a minute left. Amid alternating bright sun, downpours and overcast skies, the game featured two of the best teams in the state....  Read more...

FIS Race Results

April 10, 2012 ~ FIS Races The FIS calendar stayed busy, with racing to report from all quarters. In France, Charlie Raposo ’13 took 9th in the British Junior Nationals GS in Meribel, while in Winter Park, Colorado, Tucker Marshall was 13th in slalom at US Nationals. The big series were the Quebec Spring Series, the Panorama FIS week and the just-concluded Mission Ridge, WA western FIS spring series. Nordic Finale

From Head Nordic Coach Justin Beckwith: The Nordic team concluded its competitive season last week in Craftsbury, Vermont. We had some great racing to cap the season, but all our efforts paled in comparison to the staff of Craftsbury that produced a high quality race series despite the intense "pre-summer" that swept over Vermont the week prior. It was a fitting end to a season where we mostly skied on manmade snow -- just up the road on trails the kids were all very familiar with.  By the time Super Tour Finals rolled around we had already raced three times at Craftsbury this winter. Super...  Read more...

After a somewhat frustrating day in the classic mass start on Sunday, the GMVS crew took it to the trails today, posting strong results in the classic sprint on a magnificent March day at Craftsbury. Cold overnight temperatures made the course bulletproof, and once again the Craftsbury grooming team made the best possible course. Today's tracks were perfect all around and we made the most of it.   Read more...

A Historic Day for GMVS

March 30, 2012 ~Dear GMVS Parents, Student and Trustees, [imagefield_assist|fid=806|preset=third_of_page_pic|lightbox=true|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=200|height=267]I just came off the hill after an incredible morning of slalom training on Riemergasse, under the Sunny D lift at Mt. Ellen. Not only was the training outstanding, the simple fact that we were able to get on snow is downright remarkable. After the least-snowy and warmest winter on record, and after a record-setting meltdown in mid-March that saw the snowpack disappear before our eyes, the fantastic efforts of...  Read more...

FIS, USSA and College Racing

March 25, 2012 ~ Alpine HighlightsFIS  The overly full FIS calendar also bobbed and weaved with the caprices of the weather gods, and though most races were held, there were tough conditions and several cancellations. We’ll start in Whiteface, where the NJR finals took place. In the slalom, junior Jack Schibli continued his fast skiing in taking 5th, and he was joined on the first page by classmate Sam Worley in 11th. For the ladies, Sammi Stolar ’14 showed her quickness in finishing 4th (from 22nd) while Ava Kikut ’13 finished 10th. In the GS, senior Maddie Leopold grabbed the third podium...  Read more...

Since there were 18 kids from our little campus in attendance, that’s no surprise…The overall boy's winner was Christian Gallagher ’15 who also had a place on the podium with a 1st-place result in the Super-G. Classmate Scott Schibli also skied well and landed in 4th place.  The next day, the girls raced GS, and Nicole Leibundgut ’16 led the charge in 7th place. Taking 11th was Amelia Kaplan, while Tarrah Price ’16 jumped into 15th. Sunday brought...  Read more...
