GMVS Boys Soccer to Play in the Vermont State Championships

October 30, 2013 ~ After a 2-1 victory over Montpelier yesterday, the Gumbies are moving on to the State Finals to play the number one seeded, Mt. Abraham. The Championship game will be be played this Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 pm at Randolph Union High School. Directions to the Game: From GMVS: from 4 Corners in Warren (E. Warren Rd and Roxbury Gap Rd), take Roxbury Gap Rd to Roxbury. Turn south on Rt. 12A. When you enter Randolph, bear left at the intersection with Rt. 12. Geoffrey Pyke ‘14 received the Congressional Award Gold Medal in Washington, D.C., on June 18, 2013. Members of Congress joined community and corporate leaders in honoring the 246 recipients. This annual event highlights Congress’ highest honor for youth and recognized individuals that have dedicated hundreds of hours of service in their communities. Upgraded Ski Service Facility

August 30, 2013 ~ In early April, GMVS purchased two state-of-the-art stone grinding and edge tuning machines – a Mercury automated machine and a Race NC finish machine - from Wintersteiger. These two machines are the latest and greatest offerings: The Race NC is the same stonegrinder found in race-rooms at factories of major ski manufacturers.  Additionally, an order has been placed for a Montana Wax Future robot – an automated, infrared waxer – that will round out a group of tools designed to deliver the highest quality finish possible on every ski at GMVS.The GMVS Tech program takes pride...  Read more...

Sports Psychology at GMVS

August 30, 2013 ~For the second year in a row, Heinz Graf, a Sports Psychologist and Mental Coach from Switzerland, has dedicated a couple of weeks to working with the GMVS community. Heinz’s goal is to educate the student body on the importance of sports psychology and then address each individual’s strengths and weaknesses. According to Alpine Director, Steve Utter, “Mental training is one aspect of being an athlete that is often under-appreciated.” Steve says, “We are thrilled to have Heinz back again this year.”Heinz’s visit is just over two weeks. Coaches get Coached

Every Thursday this fall, Bill Knowles joins GMVS dry-land training to consult and mentor the coaches. Bill, the Director of iSPORT Training, is an essential tool towards enhancing the conditioning program. His advice includes educating the coaches on lifting technique and training athletes who are joint-compromised. Bill will be working with GMVS until the winter season kicks off with our Colorado departure. New Alpine Staff

The GMVS alpine coaching staff has great new energy with the addition of highly qualified and passionate coaches; Mike Day, Ben Sinclair, and James Tautkus will be joining the men’s alpine coaching team while Toby Niles, Alissa Consenstein and, Nate Ord are new to the women’s coaching staff. Six GMVS Athletes Named to U.S Ski Team

May 23, 2013 ~This year, the alpine program at Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) has had huge success placing athletes on National Ski Teams. Six alpine ski racers, an unprecedented number in one year, have achieved National Ski Team status.  Five have been nominated to the United States Ski Team, and one to the British Ski Team. Heidi Halvorsen '13

Heidi Halvorsen’13 was named to the Nordic USST National Training Group, which is comprised of the best junior Nordic talent in the nation.She is a six time All-American in Junior National competition. She is a two-time member of the US Ski Team's U-18 team – this year she led the women's squad, placing 5th in the sprint, 12 in a 4km distance and anchored the US gals to 2nd place finish (the best US result to date) at Scandinavian Junior Championships, held in Trondheim, Norway. May 23, 2013 ~ The girls had a couple of tough road games against Harwood and Oxbow, but they are giving the opposition a good battle, despite the results. At Harwood, the 17-7 decision was closer than the score would imply, with offense coming from Lainey Curtis (2 goals), Meg O’Shea, Eklutna Kenney, Sophia Meynard and Katie Campbell. Becca Ryan was busy in net, making 16 saves.In Bradford, the long drive made a tough game tougher, as the hosts won 14-4. A record number of GMVS Athletes possible on US Ski Team Next Year

April 18, 2013 ~ GMVS skiers are very much on the radar of the US Ski Team this spring, as 4 skiers have met the Team’s nominating criteria for next year. Making the grade for nomination to the C Team are Sandy Vietze and Brian McLaughlin, while Danny and Drew Duffy, each ranked #1 in the US in their respective age groups in GS, met the Development Team criteria. All four will be headed to the Team’s tryout camp at Mammoth in May. Ben Sinclair to join coaching staff at GMVS

April 20, 2013 ~ Ben Sinclair, a fifteen year member of the Park City Ski Team alpine coaching staff, has accepted a position as a FIS men’s coach at GMVS.  Sinclair is reunited on the GMVS staff with Head  Men’s Coach Mike Day.  The two worked together at PCST for many seasons."I was drawn to GMVS for many reasons,” said Sinclair, “but what I like most is how GMVS is in a position to control its own destiny. 5 GMVS Athletes Selected to train with top Juniors in the US

April 18, 2013 ~ Ryan Mooney ’15, Max Stamler ’15, Jack Schibli ’14, Lexi Skovran and Mika Smith ’17 have been selected to attend a multi-region project in Mammoth as well. Mike Day, until recently the USST Head Men’s World Cup technical coach,  has signed on to be Head Men’s Coach at GMVS.  Mike spent the past three seasons working primarily with Ted Ligety who under Mike’s tutelage is a four-time World Championship winner and two-time Overall World Cup GS winner. GMVS Athletes shine in American/Canadian Alpine Championships

The U16's showed GMVS' depth at the AmCan Championships in Sugarloaf, Maine. Ali Nullmeyer took the win in Super G, just ahead of Katie Utter in second place. Kara Gailiunas moved up nicely as well, finishing 7th. For the guys, Scott Schibli continued his late-season surge to lead a charge of 5 guys in the top 13 with his silver-medal performance. Logan Slattery was not far back in 4th, just ahead of classmate David Frisk. Tristan McCutcheon skied well in 11th, with Jimmy Krupka turning the long boards to take 13th. March 28, 2013 ~The final weeks of racing in the east are upon us, and plenty of GMVS kids are still going fast all over the place.  And now, we’ll start with this week in Vermont, with the George Tormey Series GS at nearby Middlebury Snowbowl. Christian Gallagher showed his mettle with a solid second place result on the tough Allen Trail, with Pate Campbell also skiing well in 7th. Carter Kendig was also in the mix in 14th place.
