Alberta Base Camp

It is coming up on a solid month that we have had “GMVS-Northwest” inthe Rockies of Alberta, but the efforts have been well worth it. Three Alpinecamps have rotated through, and, believe it or not, Luc and JP havecompletely lost their Quebec accents and now say ‘eh’ after every statement.Word is they have developed a penchant for cowboy boots, but that has yetto be confirmed… The kids have had great training and freeskiing, as well asthe chance to watch both men’s and women’s World Cup action in LakeLouise. The Nordies, meanwhile, have had mid-winter conditions in SilverStar, BC, just a few...  Read more...

Louis Etienne

“The GMVS staff is the base of the pyramid we students rely on to make men and women of ourselves. Before I came to GMVS, there were no teachers who took the time to sit down with me and just talk. This is what impresses me the most about this place. What I’ll remember from my experience here is: when you go down, you always have the choice to get up and when you make that choice, you can stand, proud of what you’ve done, because you’ve tried.” From Louis Etienne's 2009 Graduation Speech.  Read more...

Campus Speaker

On Thursday, Dr. Matt Gammons of Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic in Rutland spoke with the whole community about head injuries, as well the importance of sleep. His comments and answers to students’ questions will help us all understand not only the importance of recognizing head injuries, but also how the recovery process works. He also stressed how quality sleep helps the body recover and grow, two critical aspects of an elite athlete’s program. Hopefully everyone will heed his advice!  Read more...

Ava '13 and Dani '12

My two sisters live across the hall from me- which is great but my other “sisters” are my roommates. We have lived together for two years and what works so well for us is that we are very different from each other. Jackie and I alpine race and Elena is a “nordie”. Elena is from Switzerland, Jackie is from New York and I grew up in Vermont. We have learned how to appreciate the differences in each other while agreeing on a bedtime, stretch time, quiet time, movie time and chat time! My roommates are often the highlight of my day and the support when I need it.  Read more...
