A Bitter End

November 8, 2010~ The boys headed to their semifinal game at U-32 with quite a bit of momentum: 6 straight wins, the last one over the defending champion, plus the added help of nearly the entire school on the sidelines. Unfortunately an early goal by the Raiders, plus a saved penalty kick kept the team from gaining any traction, leading to a disappointing 3-0 loss. GMVS controlled the balance of play, with defender Zach Pasteris and company keeping pace with the speedy U-32 forwards. However, the one opportunity they gave up just over 5 minutes in led to the early 1-0 deficit. Pasteris...  Read more...

Fall Ball

October 18, 2010~On Friday the seniors hosted the Fall Ball. Before the dance the students were treated to a five star meal in the over hauled dining room. White tablecloths and candles set the mood for what was to be a night to remember. I noticed a variety of sartorial choices that night, some deciding to take a more formal approach, as others went for what I like to call the après-gym look. As the students dined Mother Nature whipped up some of the white stuff, making the Fall Ball more of a Winter Ball that evening.   Dinner finished and the young night lifers funneled out into the...  Read more...

Soccer Rolls On...Sort Of

October 18, 2010~The soccer teams spent the regular season's penultimate week in a mixed state. The boys' teams had Friday's contests postponed to Monday, giving them a rare week off. The girls continued to press on, starting things off with a tough 5-4 win at Stratton. The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a couple of bombs from way outside in the first 20 minutes. GMVS stormed back, though, getting a breakaway goal by Sara Kikut, then a penalty kick conversion by sister Anna with 3 minutes left in the first half. SMS then found the net less than a minute later, followed by another Sara...  Read more...

Soccer Teams See Lots of Action

The soccer teams entered the second phase of the season (post-camps) with a flurry of games this week. For the girls, that meant a game under the most miserable conditions on Wednesday, as torrential rains soaked the campus for the entire game. On top of that, GMVS spotted the visiting Eagle to a 3-0 lead after just 15 minutes of play. The girls fought back, though, with “bang-bang” goals by Storey Dyer-Kloman ’13 and Sara Kikut ’11 in the 32nd and 33rd minutes pulling the team back to a one-goal deficit before halftime. As the puddles grew in the second frame, Gabby Pasteris ’13 was able to...  Read more...
