October 1, 2011 ~ Coaches and athletes agree that this year’s two
weeks in Chile was one of the most successful pre-season camps any of us ever
experienced. Daily does of sun, blue skies and bulletproof snow were perfect
training conditions. The company was ideal; the German men’s Europa cup team,
the U.S. women’s Europa Cup and World cup teams, and the Canadian Olympic
paralytic team trained next to GMVS on Valle Nevado’s supreme terrain.
Valle Nevado’s hill crew accommodated race training with daily prepping of its steep trails. The mountain maintained a world-class speed venue including custom building a jump in the terrain park.
Highlights from the camp include a group of GMVS boys training GS with Lindsey Vonn. A couple of them gave her a run for her money with GMVS taking home the fastest times of the day. A group of boys also trained Super G along side the German team. On the women’s side, a group of girls were invited to train GS with the U.S. Women’s World cup team.
Off the hill, students spent most of their time studying, tuning, eating Chilean chocolate, and regenerating next to the world’s best skiers at the mountain’s fitness center.
