September 1, 2011 ~
With the disastrous effects of Tropical Storm Irene all around us, we altered the schedule on Tuesday and fanned out throughout the Valley to help farms, businesses and residents in the daunting cleanup effort. From the Turner Farm to Warren Village, German Flats Road to Bridge Street, our entire school community literally dove into the task of cleaning mud from basements, clearing fields of debris, and washing what could be saved. The day proved so successful that we did the same on Wednesday, this time turning our full effort to American Flatbread and Lareau Farm Inn, which had been hit particularly hard by floodwaters and mud. Our efforts made an impact, and Flatbread was up and running on the weekend.
The efforts didn’t end on Wednesday, though, and this weekend we had crews in Moretown and elsewhere helping out, and we will certainly continue to do what we can to get people through this crisis.
Please visit the Mad River Valley Hurricane Facebook page if you are interested in volunteering or donating to the cleanup effort.
